About Artist

My name is Karen A. Fitzgibbon. I have been creating as long as I can remember. In kindergarten I painted a scene of a giraffe eating from a tree with a sun in the background. This finger painting won an award and was hung in a local art show. My family is very artistic. Talents ranged from fiber art to music, wood working to painting. There was always something to learn and create. Like most artists I know, I’ve dabbled in a wide variety of the art fields, but I’ve always come back to fibers and clay. For many years I mixed polymer clay and fibers, creating unique and different pieces. I enjoy the process of adding found objects, scrap pieces, recycled items, etc., to my work. Mixing fibers with ceramics is the next step on my journey. I learned how to spin yarn and am now adding it into/onto some of the ceramic pieces. I have shown my work in many galleries along the Oregon Coast and in and around Oregon. I have been part of a variety of group shows at the Newport Visual Art Center and have also shown there independently. I have shown my work as a part of the Toledo Art Walk, either independently or with local art groups and have also donated pieces for local fundraisers.
